There are hundreds of websites selling electrical products, which are not complaint to be sold in Canada. Permit Requirements for Lighting Installations
Whether it's a new installation, renovation, or you are simply removing and replacing an existing lighting fixture, by law, as described in the Canadian Electrical Code, a permit is required to install a luminaire. There are no exceptions to this rule. Failure to obtain a permit can result in;
• Fines, from $500 to $10,000 for each offence.
• Liability, both the home owner and the contractor are liable.
• Legal Issues, selling a property does not obsovle you from the legal consequences.
• Insurnace Claims, denial of claim related to work done without a permit.
• Safety Risks, fire, injury and death.
